Tajikeimɨk is seeking a compassionate and visionary leader to guide our Mental Wellness and Healing initiatives. The Program Lead focuses on integrating L’nu knowledge, traditions, and language into community care, fostering wholistic health and wellness. Reporting to the Director of Mental Wellness and Healing, the ideal candidate will collaborate with community care teams, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and practitioners, to strengthen mental wellness and healing
services for Mi’kmaq in Nova Scotia.
What you’ll do:
Specific responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to:
- Support the implementation of the L’nu’k Mental Wellness and Healing
Framework. - Develop and manage project plans, progress, and resolve challenges, to ensure
successful delivery of initiatives. - Lead community and stakeholder engagements to gather insights and foster
collaboration. - Build and maintain effective relationships with communities, Health Directors, and
Indigenous partners. - Collaborate with organizations, government partners, and funders to advance
mental wellness goals. - Support capacity-building efforts within communities to enhance mental wellness
services. - Ensure alignment with cultural values, traditions, and language in all initiatives.
- Support mental wellness teams and community care teams in their efforts.
- Identify and apply for funding opportunities to sustain and grow wellness programs.
- Facilitate knowledge-sharing and best practices among communities and partners.
- Support the development of educational materials and workshops to promote mental wellness
and healing. - Evaluate programs to measure effectiveness and identify areas for improvement.
- Act as a resource and mentor for staff and community members in wellness-related roles.
Your qualifications:
- A degree in the health-related field, or field of Indigenous studies. Masters degree consider an asset.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in mental health, community wellness, or a related
area, preferably in Indigenous contexts. - In-depth knowledge of L’nu culture, traditions, and language, with a commitment to
integrate them into wellness programs. - Experience in project management, including planning, execution, securing funding for community
projects, and evaluation of health or wellness initiatives. - Experience working with Indigenous communities, organizations, and government agencies.
- Training or certification in trauma-informed care, First Nations mental health first aid, or
similar approaches will be considered an asset. - Strong knowledge of mental health systems, Indigenous health frameworks, and
cultural safety principles. - Proficient in modern office technologies, including Microsoft Office, MS Teams, and
Zoom. - Ability to communicate, verbally and in-writing, in the Mi’kmaw language would
be considered an asset. - Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel throughout Nova Scotia.
- An up-to-date criminal record check.

- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to foster collaboration, build and
maintain partnerships, and foster trust and cooperation. - Ability to evaluate programs, measure impact, and implement continuous
improvements - Leadership skills to mentor and support staff and community teams effectively.
- Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality.
- Proficiency in report writing, proposal development, and presenting to diverse
audiences. - Flexibility and adaptability to work in dynamic and evolving environments.
- Knowledge of mental health systems, Indigenous health frameworks, and trauma-informed
care practices. - Knowledge and support for Tajikeimik’s vision and mission, with a genuine passion, personal
alignment, and commitment to Mi’kmaw health and wellness through the principle of self-
determination over health resources.
Salary: to be negotiated based on experience.
Location: Millbrook or Membertou with the possibility of a hybrid at home working model.

Tajikeimɨk is the new and developing health and wellness organization being created to
lead health transformation on behalf of Mi’kmaw communities in Nova Scotia. In collaboration with
Chiefs, Grand Council, and Health Directors, Tajikeimɨk will build on and evolve the health and
wellness services and programs used by Mi’kmaw people in Nova Scotia; improve health service
delivery; and strengthen coordination with Federal and Provincial health system partners—with
the goal of improving overall health for Mi’kmaq and communities.
