Tajikeimɨk is seeking a Mi’kmaw planner and leader to take on the role of Program Leader, Mental Wellness and Healing in our developing organization. Working in collaboration with others as part of our health transformation journey, the Program Leader will support a Mi’kmaw led, comprehensive health planning process to design and deliver more wholistic, trauma informed, and culturally safe programs, services, and supports that meet the mental wellness and healing needs of Mi’kmaw communities and individuals.
What you’ll do:
- In collaboration with others, facilitates a health planning process that will support the design of mental wellness and healing programs and services that better meets the needs of communities and individuals
- Plans, designs, and evaluates mental wellness and healing programs, services, and models of care to support health transformation
- Leads the development and implementation of a Mi’kmaw Mental Wellness and Healing Strategy
- Ensures that Mi’kmaw culture and values are central to health planning by integrating Mi’kmaw values, culture, and a two-eyed seeing approach
- Supports successful health transformation by applying expertise in mental wellness and healing and skills and knowledge in planning, facilitation, and project management
- Provides effective project management support to key initiatives within their area of responsibility, developing business cases and workplans to ensure deliverables are achieved
- Supports the development of project plans that enable the successful transfer of responsibilities from the federal government
- As assigned, coordinates the daily operations of services and programs within their area of responsibility
- Participates in initiatives, on behalf of the organization, that supports the advancement of mental wellness and healing
- Builds and maintains positive and effective working relationships with communities, Health Directors, Indigenous partner organizations, and government partners

- You have demonstrated success in leading initiatives to improve health services and programs
- You are an innovative thinker with experience leading program and service planning and process and quality improvement initiatives
- You have knowledge of project management methodologies and principles
- You have exceptional organizational, time management, and follow-through skills and demonstrate a high degree of initiative, independent decision making, and self-direction
- You are a relationship builder with the ability to work effectively with multiple partners
- You have sound knowledge of Mi’kmaw culture and experience with Mi’kmaw organizations
- Passion, personal alignment, and commitment to Mi’kmaw health and wellness through self-determination over health resources
Your qualifications:
- Undergraduate degree in a health-related discipline. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Masters degree in a related field of study considered an asset.
- If applicable, registration with and a member of good standing of the relevant health discipline college/association.
- Minimum of three years of recent experience in the health care field.
- Previous experience working in or with First Nations communities.
- Demonstrated experience and expertise in the area of mental wellness and healing.
- Demonstrated skills in health planning and project management.
- Strong collaboration, problem-solving, and planning skills.
- Experience and knowledge of Mi’kmaw community health and wellness strengths and challenges and Indigenous community, provincial, and federal health systems, policies, programs, and strategies.
- Ability to communicate, verbally and in writing, in the Mi’kmaw language would be an asset.
- Preference will be given to Mi’kmaw applicants.
Salary: to be negotiated based on experience.

Tajikeimɨk | Mi’kmaw Health and Wellness is the new and developing health and wellness organization being created to lead health transformation on behalf of Mi’kmaw communities in Nova Scotia. In collaboration with Chiefs, Grand Council, and Health Directors, Tajikeimɨk will build on and evolve the health and wellness services and programs used by Mi’kmaw people in Nova Scotia; improve health service delivery; and strengthen coordination with Federal and Provincial health system partners—with the goal of improving overall health for Mi’kmaq and communities.
