Tajikeimik recognizes the importance of cultural connection when accessing services in the current hospital system.
Our Nuji-Apoqnmuet (Mi’kmaw Helpers) Team are here to support Mi’kmaw and Indigenous community members, and their families, while they are accessing health services in hospital.
The Nuji-Apoqnmuet Team provides:
- Wholistic support for patients and families
- Mi’kmaw translation and language assistance
- Visiting patients in hospital
- Help communicate with hospital staff
- Encourage inclusion of culture and ceremony into care
- Small errands for in-patients
- Spiritual and/or religious supports
- Liaison with home community, as required
- Assistance accessing relevant services and programs
